Suspects in Dematagoda abduction except Hirunika plead guilty

Eight suspects who were involved with MP Hirunika Premachandra in the abduction of a garment stall employee pleaded guilty to all charges framed against them by the Attorney General in the Colombo High Court.

The accused were charged with the abduction of Amila Priyankara Amarasinghe at a garment sales outlet along Baseline Road, Dematagoda in December 2015. When the case was taken up before Colombo High Court Judge R. Gurusinha, the eight accused, except Premachandra, pleaded guilty to all charges framed against them by the Attorney General,

Premachandra pleaded not guilty to the charges and the court fixed the trial against her. Judge Gurusinghe also fixed the pronouncement of his judgment over the other eight accused who pleaded guilty to the charges for 24 November. 

The accused were alleged to have abducted Amila Priyanga Amarasinghe on 15 December 2015 at a garment store in Dematagoda and had taken him in a Defender belonging to Premachandra and assaulted him over a domestic dispute.

Premachandra was alleged to have sent her personal Defender with her supporters to the shop in Dematagoda where the man was employed in order to resolve a family dispute between the victim and his wife.

The AG has filed an indictment on 29 counts against Premachandra and her staff members over the incident. They were indicted for unlawful assembly, aiding and abetting, abduction and threatening the victim.
