Sri Lankan Journalists for Global Justice (SLJGJ), in a statement yesterday, vehemently condemned Israel for killing more than 65 Palestinians and injuring nearly 3,900 others who were peacefully demonstrating against the illegal occupation of their homeland from 14 May. “This action of brutal slaughter amounts to genocide,” the SLJGJ statement signed by President Jayatileka Silva and Secretary Mahinda Hattaka said.
“All peace-loving people should condemn this action unequivocally and call upon the United Nations to implement its own resolutions aimed at realising and ensuring the inalienable national and human rights of the Palestinian people. We also condemn the action of the United States in re-locating its Embassy to Jerusalem in violation of international agreements and in opposition to world public opinion. According to international agreement, the status of Jerusalem is to be decided jointly as the last item in a peace process. The SLJGJ calls upon the Government to condemn forthwith the brutal massacre in Gaza and the collusion of the United States in denying the national rights of the Palestinian people. We also call upon journalists, professionals, all political parties and civil society organisations, as well as the general public, to protest against this inhumane act of genocide by Israel,” the statement added.
