India has secured the release of a Tamil Nadu fisherman, whose son died earlier this week, from Sri Lanka, the Indian External Affairs Ministry said on Saturday.
“Responding to a request for the release of a Tamil Nadu fisherman in Sri Lankan custody, whose son passed away on February 7, we took up the matter with Sri Lankan authorities,” the Ministry said in a statement, according to the ANI news service.
“He has been released and returning to India shortly,” it said. According to the ministry, the release of more than 100 other fisherman is in process. (Colombo Gazette)
