Sri Lanka Air Force organised a Ranaviru Upahara Commemoration Islamic Harmony – 2019 at Kolupitiya Jummah Mosque in memory of the Muslim soldiers who sacrificed their lives during the ethnic problem in the north of Sri Lanka.
Air Force Chief Marshal D.L.S. Dias participated as a chief guest in the commemoration event held at the Kolupitiya Jummah Mosque. President of the Kolupitiya Jumma Mosque, Alhaj Kaleel Mohamed, its Deputy President Muslim Salahudeen and senior Air Force officers and relatives of the deceased Air Force officers were present during the commemoration event.
A mother who lost her son in 1990 while he was a combatant in the Air Force, told Colombo Times, that she is still proud of the her son’s achievement, who sacrificed his life for the sake of the country. She said she is not only proud of this great achievement but also honoured to get a regular pension from the Government to look after her family. “I also know another Muslim pilot who belonged to the Malay community lost his life when the LTTE shot down his aircraft,” the mother said, recalling that they were brave soldiers who laid down their arms to save Mother Lanka.
