Speaker Karu Jayasuriya has invited all party leaders to a meeting on Tuesday to determine a date for the parliamentary debate on the bond commission report.

The Presidential Commission of Inquiry (PCoI) into the Bond Issuance of the Central Bank appointed to probe the allegations of corrupt practices and misdeeds during the period 2015 and 2016 handed over its 1,257-page final report to the President on 30 December 2017.

The United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA), of which the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) is the main constituent party, has asked for a debate in Parliament to discuss the findings of the report, according to UPFA General Secretary Minister Mahinda Amaraweera.

The Joint Opposition and the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) have also called for a parliamentary debate immediately to discuss the recommendations of the report.

Parliament is scheduled to convene on 23 January for the first time in the new year.
