Six COVID-19 deaths were confirmed by health authorities yesterday, bringing the total number of COVID-19-related deaths to have occurred in the island to 270.
According to the Department of Government Information, a 63-year-old individual from Dehiwala yesterday died of bronchopneumonia developed due to COVID-19. The individual tested positive for COVID-19 while receiving treatment at the Negombo District Hospital. He was then transferred to the Iranawila Treatment Centre, where he passed away.
A 65-year-old individual from Ratnapura passed away yesterday as well. He tested positive for the virus while receiving treatment at the Ratnapura Teaching Hospital. He was then transferred to the Homagama Base Hospital, where he died of COVID pneumonia.
The previous day, a resident of Colombo 03 died of COVID pneumonia and acute diabetes while being admitted to the National Hospital of Sri Lanka. She was 63 years old.
On 15 January, an 80-year-old individual from Colombo 15 died while being admitted to the National Hospital of Sri Lanka. The cause of death was COVID pneumonia.
The same day, a 75-year-old individual from Modara died of COVID pneumonia at an elders’ home.
Health authorities also confirmed that a 65-year-old individual from Kalutara South who passed away on 14 January died of COVID pneumonia, heart disease, and acute diabetes. He died while being admitted to the Kalutara District General Hospital.
