Sirisena makes observation tour to Moragahakanda Project

President Maithripala Sirisena made an observation tour of the Moragahakanda Project last week. At present, the testing works of the Moragahakanda hydro-electricity plant, which will generate 25 megawatt hydropower to the national grid, are being carried out successfully. During this observation tour the President inquired in this regard.

The Moragahakanda hydro-electricity plant was built within the shortest period of time in the history of the country. The Plant was built near the Moragahakanda main dam and the electricity will be generated using four turbines. This will consist of two 7.5 megawatt turbines and another two 5 megawatt turbines.

The Moragahakanda reservoir is situated at 132 metre height from the sea level. When the water level of the reservoir increased to 165 metres from sea level the power plant will be operated. When it reaches the highest level 185 metres the power will be generated.

The President who visited the project premises recently engaged in cordial discussion with the officials including the project engineers.

The Acting Director of the Moragahakanda-Kalu Ganga Multi-purpose Development Project T.B. Wijerathne participated on this occasion.
