Expansions to the pension scheme for self-employed persons and the social security benefits scheme have been proposed by Samurdhi, Household Economy, Micro Finance, Self-Employment, Business Development, and Underutilised State Resources Development State Minister Shehan Semasinghe.
According to a statement issued by the Finance Ministry yesterday, the proposals were made following observations of the activities of the Sri Lanka Social Security Board, for which officials of the institution were also present.
By expanding these schemes, more people can benefit from them, the State Minister said, adding that the Sri Lanka Social Security Board should be developed so it is not a burden to the Treasury, and is instead an institution that provides a service to the public.
