On 27 June, the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Russia concurrently accredited to Belarus, in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Relations, the Presidential Secretariat and SriLankan Airlines, repatriated by flight UL 1206 a group of Sri Lankan citizens in the Republic of Belarus, who had expressed their desire to return to Sri Lanka in the wake of COVID-19.
The group consisted of 289 students from Belarus cities: Grodno, Vitebsk, Minsk and Gomel. All returnees will be undergoing mandatory quarantine at Government quarantine centres free of charge and paid quarantine at hotels allocated for this purpose.
The Embassy expresses its gratitude to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus, Ministry of Internal Affairs of Belarus, Ministries of Health and Education of Belarus, the Administration of the Minsk National Airport, other officials of the Sri Lankan and Belarus government authorities, the Belarus universities, the Sri Lankan community in Belarus and the representatives of University Student Unions and group leaders, who helped the Embassy in the coordination of the flight and worked tirelessly to realise it.
This Mission highly appreciates the work of all Embassy officials and individuals who consolidated their efforts to return the Sri Lankans home.
