Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa says the thieves of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) are attempting to make a comeback. According to him, their rise is being facilitated by President Ranil Wickremesinghe.

“The people usually appoint a President based on his program to rebuild the country. But Wickremesinghe was appointed based on three promises he made to the SLPP MP group,” he alleged. According to Premadasa, the President has promised to pay damages to SLPP MPs for their houses that were destroyed, provide them with protection and not hold any elections for at least four years. “He is now delivering on these promises made,” he said.
Premadasa made these comments at an electoral organising meeting held in Polgahawela on Sunday.
He noted how the SLPP had organised a rally to revive its party in the same electorate of the Minister who was responsible for the destruction of the country’s agriculture sector. “This is a cruel joke on this country’s people,” he said.
The Opposition Leader said that in order to maintain food security in a country, four interrelated elements must be followed, namely, maintaining adequate physical food stocks without any shortages, maintaining the price level so that all types of food can be purchased by the public, maintaining the availability of food to meet the nutritional needs of all in a household and maintaining a continuous and stable food supply chain. “The current Government has failed in all of these aspects,” he said.
Premadasa said the SLPP appears to have begun its rebuilding campaign from Nawalapitiya by getting the Police to surround the SJB’s office in the town. He announced he will be holding his own rally in Nawalapitiya in the coming days.
