The Special Task Force yesterday raided a licensed toddy manufacturing facility in Kochchikade, for the production and sale of artificial toddy which violated the terms of its license. The production and sale of artificial toddy is illegal in Sri Lanka.
Three persons were taken into custody and handed over to Negombo excise officials, along with 4,000 litres of ‘goda,’ 2,760 bottles of toddy flasks, 7 kg of sugar, 5 kg of yeast, as well as harmful chemicals used to produce artificial toddy.
The facility at School Lane in Ottiyawaththa is situated 3 km from the Kochchikade Police station, with the artificial toddy manufactured at the facility suspected to have been distributed island wide. The license to manufacture natural toddy had also expired at the time of the raid.
