Special Task Force (STF) Police officers opened fire on a cab that drove in defiance of orders to stop at a roadblock in Point Pedro, Jaffna yesterday, Police said.

According to the Police, the cab was driven disobeying the orders to stop at the roadblock and the STF officers had also thrown two nail-studded wood pieces onto the path. However the cab had continued with blown-out tyres, attempting to run over the officers.

The Police Media Spokesman also said the Police had received information that two youths aged 23 and 26 who were injured in the shooting had been admitted to the Point Pedro Hospital and the Police had launched a special investigation to find the cab.

The Police Media Spokesman further stated that there was a natural sand deposit in the Point Pedro area and the STF had set up a check post in the area to protect the sand deposit.
