Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) General Secretary MP Dayasiri Jayasekara yesterday warned its members from attending the party’s breakaway group’s convention.
Issuing a letter to members, Jayasekara said the convention would back the United National Party (UNP), which would be a move against party’s policies and said disciplinary action would be taken against those participating the convention.
“The decision to back Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) presidential candidate Gotabaya Rajapaksa was taken as a unanimous decision of the party. Party organisers at all level were informed on that. The decision to participate in the convention will be considered as a breach of party disciplinary code,” Jayasekara said in the letter.
A special convention named ‘Api Sri Lanka’ is scheduled to be held at Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium today with the participation of former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga and several SLFP members.
