The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) yesterday appointed two committees to carry out party restructuring ahead of the 2019 elections.
The committees appointed following the Central Committee meeting, held on Thursday evening, will focus on setting up strategic plans and ideological plans to promote the party among the members, SLFP General Secretary Prof. Rohana Lakshman Piyadasa said speaking to DailyFT.
The two committees will be headed by Ministers Nimal Siripala de Silva and Mahinda Amaraweera with the help of party members, he said.
“Both committees have already started their tasks, and they are very keen on the restructuring process of the party for the upcoming elections. I have faith in these committees and they will come up with a new strategy which will boost the confidence of the members of the party,” he added.
He said the suggestions of the two committees will be taken into consideration for the restructuring in due course.
“We are hoping the suggestions of the two committees will be made before President Maithripala Sirisena arrives in Sri Lanka from his US visit. During this time, we are giving our best for the restructuring process for the betterment of the party,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Central Committee of SLFP removed six MPs and senior members from their respective electoral organiser posts. MPs Anura Priyadharshana Yapa, Susil Premajayantha, W. D. J.Seneviratne, Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena, T.B. Ekanayake, and Chandima Weerakkody are the members who have been removed from their posts.
Dayasiri Jayasekara was appointed as SLFP’s Kurunegala district leader whilst G.H. Buddhadasa and Hector Bethmage as Kaduwela joint organisers.
