The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) yesterday appointed a 10-member committee to study the proposed 20th Amendment to the Constitution.
According to a statement issued by the party, the committee members include Labour Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva, Environment Minister Mahinda Amaraweera, Batik, Handloom and Local Apparel Products State Minister Dayasiri Jayasekara; Solar Power, Wind and Hydro Power Generation Projects Development State Minister Duminda Dissanayake and Members of Parliament Shan Vijayalal De Silva and Sarathi Dushmantha.
Prof. Rohana Luxman Piyadasa, President’s Counsel Faiszer Mustapha, lawyer Sanjaya Gamage, and Dr. Chamil Liyanage are also part of the committee.
The SLFP, which was indecisive on its stance on the proposed amendments to the Constitution during a press briefing last week, will inform the committee appointed by Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa of the party’s ideas and suggestions based on the SLFP committee’s recommendations.
