  • SJB will only field unblemished candidates
  • Stresses that SJB endorsed by UNP Working Committee
  • Says that EC has cleared SJB to proceed to elections

The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) yesterday said that the party will only field unblemished candidates for the upcoming General Elections.

“We will face this election with good leaders, our party won’t field anyone who has allegations of corruption, anyone who is alleged to have committed fraud or crimes,” said SJB General Secretary Ranjith Madduma Bandara.

Bandara made the comments at the press conference held at his residence yesterday. The public expects the SJB to field ‘clean’ candidates and has placed their trust in the SJB leadership, Bandara said. More than three times the number of supporters the SJB expected for the launch had turned up for the event,” he claimed, pointing out that the public was ready a change in the political culture which they can deliver.

“The SJB has been endorsed by the United National Party (UNP) Working Committee,” he stressed pointing out that the Working Committee had issued a directive to that effect.

Bandara claimed that a majority of UNP members and former Members of Parliament support the SJB alliance. “Today in our journey towards victory, an overwhelming majority of UNP supporters are with the SJB alliance, we will defeat this Government that has failed the people,” he added.

Rejecting concerns about the SJB constitution, Bandara pointed out that the SJB has been cleared by the Elections Commission to proceed to elections.
