SJB members receive UNP show cause letters

Several members of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) have received letters sent by the United National Party (UNP) challenging their members to show cause as to why they sent in nominations for the upcoming General Elections from another party. 

SJB member Rehan Jayawickrama took to Twitter, stating that he had received the letter and that he was looking forward to meeting UNP General Secretary, Akila Viraj Kariyawasam in Court. “Just received my show cause letter from @officialunp. Whilst thanking you for initiating disciplinary action against me, I look forward to meeting you in court @AkilaViraj” he tweeted. 

The SJB confirmed that some members had received the letter and that legal action was ongoing. SJB Deputy Secretary Sujeewa Senasinghe told Daily FT that he could not comment on the matter as legal action against the UNP suspension was ongoing. However, he said that he was confident the matter will be resolved in courts next week.
