The Government this week approved a proposal to allocate Rs. 3 million for the 70th anniversary celebrations of Parliament.
To mark the 70th anniversary the Government has drawn up plans for a summit of speakers of South Asian countries to be held in October 2017 and the new session of Parliament will be commenced ceremonially, Cabinet co-spokesperson and Parliamentary Reforms Minister Gayantha Karunatileka said. In addition, it has been proposed to compile a trilingual felicitation volume including information and photographs charting the commencement of Sri Lanka’s Parliament on 14 October 1947. The proposal made by Parliamentary Reforms Minister Gayantha Karunatileka to obtain funds for the project was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers this week.
