The Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) C.D. Wickramaratne yesterday decided to give a reward of Rs. 5 million to the individual who had provided information, which led to locating explosives in two safe houses in Sammanthurai.
Police media spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekara said the attention of the Police Headquarters has been drawn to the individual following his interviews to media. “Following the individual’s comments to draw police attention to the fact that his efforts have not been properly appreciated, the acting IGP approved the reward for him,” Gunasekara said.
He said based on information proved by the individual security forces discovered a stock of explosives hidden inside a house at the village of Sengal in Sammanthurai on 25 April and a second cache of explosives were discovered at a house in Nintavur, Sammanthurai.
“Considering the accuracy of the information provided to the police the acting IGP has decided to give Rs. 2.5 million for each piece of information,” Gunasekara said.
