Repairs begin on damaged churches

Repairs of the three churches damaged in the Easter Sunday attacks will be done with the combination of the three forces and the Government, a statement said yesterday. 

The Government Information Department yesterday said reconstruction will be done under the Ministry of Housing, Development and Cultural Affairs.

Accordingly, reconstruction of Kochchikade Church has already been commenced and main construction of this church is being carried out by the Sri Lanka Navy with the support of State Engineering Corporation.

Reconstructions of Negombo Katuwapitiya Church also will start today by the Sri Lanka Army jointly with State Engineering Corporation.

Additionally, reconstruction of Zion Church Batticaloa are to be done jointly by the Sri Lanka Army and State Development and Construction Corporation.

Reconstruction of Kochchikade and Katuwapitiya Churches will be carried out with a committee comprised of Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith, Bishop D.J. Antony and Bishop Maxwel De Silva and the Church Fathers’ Financial provisions for these activities will be provided by the Ministry of Housing Development and Cultural Affairs.
