Rear Admiral Sarath Weerasekara yesterday revealed that he will file a petition to the United Nations Human Right Council (UNHRC) against the Government for co-sponsoring the resolution 30/1 of October 2015.
At a conference organised by Global Sri Lankan Forum and The Federation of National Organisations, he alleged to the media that the Government had betrayed its people to fulfil the needs of the foreign nations. He charged that a group representing both organisations will fly to Geneva today (Tuesday) to submit the petition, on behalf of the entire nation and the soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the freedom.
“Dr. Gunadasa Amarasekara will join to prepare this petition, and I assure that I will do my best to protect my country and everyone who sacrificed their lives,” Weerasekara said.
He welcomed the decision of President Maithripala Sirisena to speak at United Nation on behalf of the armed forces and recognise their value.
He also said a complaint will be made over the actions of the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka (HRCSL) and its chairperson Dr. Deepika Udagama, and alleged the HRCSL violated the rights of the members of armed forces by delaying vetting reports.
