Attorney-at-Law, Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police (Rtd) Anil Ravindra Waidyalankara, has been appointed as the President of the Association of Chiefs of Police Sri Lanka for the year 2023 to 2024 at the Annual General Meeting of the Association of Chiefs of Police Sri Lanka held at the Senior Police Officers’ Mess on 29 January 2023.
Waidyalankara counted 40 years of continuous service in Sri Lanka Police. He joined as a Sub Inspector in 1979, and rose up to the rank of Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police at the time of his retirement in 2018.
He had held significant key positions of the Police such as Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Director, Crimes Police Headquarters Director, Discipline and Conduct Director and founded the Financial Crimes Investigations Division (FCID) during his tenure in the service. His contribution to the police is extended in the areas of Territorial Police work, Criminal Investigations, Protection of Child and women rights, Field of Law and Intelligence gathering and analysis.
He had represented Sri Lanka in numerous seminars, workshops and discussions in the related fields, locally and internationally, and had earned commendations, and appreciations, which is unique in his career, as a Police Officer.
He is an Attorney-at-Lawyer, and at present holding LL.B., LL.M., M.Sc., M.Phil. and a Ph.D., on Law and International affairs. Apart from above, he holds Post Graduate Diplomas in International Affairs, Diplomacy and World Order, Banking and Insurance laws, and related studies.
He is an Officer who had been trained, and had undergone foreign training in specific fields of operations in Criminal Investigations and Intelligence, gathering and analysis in prestigious entities such as M.I.5 (United Kingdom), Scotland Yard - United Kingdom, Luciana University in United States of America, Administrative Staff College of India, Hyderabad (ASCI) and other reputed Agencies in many overseas jurisdictions.
Waidyalankara’s expertise is in Investigation had been displayed in key significant Investigations conducted by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), specially spire heading Colombo International Airport Attack, attack on former Commander at Army, along with sensitive investigations with regard to the threat of the National security during the height of insurgency and terrorism prevailed in Sri Lanka.
