In an effort to uplift the transport system in the country, a Facebook page has been put up to give the public a chance to post their suggestions regarding the transport system in the country.
The page, which is called ‘Arjuna Ranatunga - Inquiries Centre’, has been introduced by Transport and Civil Aviation Minister Arjuna Ranatunga, with the hope of creating a direct line of communication between the Minister and the public to state the public’s opinions, suggestions and even report corruption irregularities regarding the transport system in the country. Ranatunga has claimed this is an attempt to create a public-friendly and efficient transport system.
The unveiling of the Facebook page took place at the Transport and Civil Aviation Ministry office at Battaramulla yesterday morning during the New Year celebrations. Addressing the Ministry officials and staff, the Minister stated that the Ministry’s New Year resolution will be to provide the people with a quality transport system, not just any transport system. He further requested the Ministry officials to join him in preventing privatisation of the organisations that provide transport services to bestow them unto the future generations.
“We can’t put a stop to the privatisation of these companies if they don’t make profits. We must protect these organisations for the future generations. We can only achieve this if the Ministry officials and staff do their duties with love and respect towards the country and the Ministry. I am always with the workforce and unions who work towards that goal, unless they do anything to harm the reputation of this Ministry. I am not afraid to take rightful decisions for the betterment of this country,” the Minister emphasised.
Transport and Civil Aviation Ministry secretary L. P. Jayampathi and other guests were also present at the event.
