The report of the Delimitation Committee for the Provincial Councils would be delayed a further two months, the Speaker’s Officeannounced yesterday.
The Delimitation Committee had informed Speaker Karu Jayasuriya that there were activities that were still incomplete and that a further two months would be needed to compile and submit their report.
Accordingly, Speaker Jayasuriya had summoned a special Party Leader’s meeting yesterday to notify them.
Addressing the Party Leaders meeting, the Speaker noted that the Provincial Council elections must be held as soon as possible and called on the Party Leaders to share the views on the delay in the submission of the Delimitation report.
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe had then said that the Cabinet of Ministers must be informed of this delay to seek their input on the matter.
The Prime Minister said that Party Leaders should get the views of the Cabinet and then come to a decision on the issue. (SG)
