National People’s Movement (NPM)’s presidential candidate and former Army Commander Gen. Mahesh Senanayake was yesterday afternoon admitted to the Army Hospital Narahenpita due to a minor respiratory infection.
“Some people spread rumours saying that he got a heart attack, but he was having a little uneasiness due to cough and cold. Doctors at the Balangoda hospital, where he was first admitted, said it was due to fatigue and weather condition,” NPM’s committee member Lacile de Silva told the Daily FT.
He said Gen. Senanayake would again commence his public rallies after launching NPM’s manifesto at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute on 24 October.
NPM sources said he held political rallies and meetings in Badulla, Bandarawela, Welimada, Diyatalawa, Yatiyantota, Ruwanwella, Balangoda and Ratnapura for the last three days. (SS)
