President Maithripala Sirisena, is billed to deliver the keynote address at the Commonwealth Business Forum on the topic, “Delivering the SDGs: Aligning Business, Society and the Governments,” today.
The Commonwealth Business Forum is an integral part of the CHOGM and brings together the businesses critical to trade and investment leadership with Government to debate the issues facing their countries in 2018 and beyond.
Over 50 entrepreneurs from Sri Lanka, mainly from the small and medium enterprise sector, will participate in the Commonwealth Business Forum, positioning Sri Lanka as a trade and investment hub in South Asia to gain the Commonwealth trade advantage. The Business Forum is expected to make a compelling case for free and inclusive trade as the best way to promote higher living standards around the world.
President Sirisena will be at the 25thCHOGM opening ceremony and the Executive sessions tomorrow to be held in London and Windsor respectively. His participation at the CHOGM will be focused on reaffirming Sri Lanka’s firm commitment to the Commonwealth and deepening Sri Lanka’s partnership with the Organization as well as with each individual member nation.
Meanwhile, Sirisena is scheduled to meet British Prime Minister Theresa May and also to hold discussions with several key officials who will be participating in the CHOGM, after the closing session.
The theme of this year’s CHOGM is ‘Towards a Common Future’ and special attention will be given to areas such as prosperity, security, fairness and sustainability to achieve the goals of the Commonwealth countries. During his stay, he will also attend the special celebration of the 92nd birthday of Queen Elizabeth.
