President Maithripala Sirisena yesterday instructed the relevant authorities to provide immediate relief to those who were affected by the heavy rain and inclement weather conditions prevailing in the country.
President Sirisena, who is on a two-day State visit to the Seychelles, has instructed Disaster Management Minister Duminda Dissnayake to provide immediate relief to victims, disregarding limitations on financial allocations.
President Sirisena has also instructed the Minister to continuously conduct welfare programs to provide necessary facilities including dry rations, drinking water and health services to people that are in need of them.
In addition, the President has instructed Chief of Defence Staff Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne to get the assistance of the tri-forces to help people affected by flooding. President Sirisena also said he was concerned about the fate of those affected by the harsh weather conditions and extended his condolences to the families of those who had died.
