President Maithripala Sirisena observed a two-minute silence yesterday at the Presidential Secretariat to commemorate the victims of the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami.
President Sirisena said that it was important for the whole country to join together to commemorate the tens of thousands of lives lost due to the tsunami. The President added that he, along with all Sri Lankans who still suffer due to the loss of their loved ones as a result of this natural disaster, wished that such a tragedy would not occur again in the future.
