President Maithripala Sirisena yesterday handed over the Rs. 5 million reward to the informant who assisted authorities to find two safe houses used by the Easter Sunday attackers.
Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) C.D. Wickramaratne on Tuesday decided to give a reward of Rs. 5 million to the individual who had provided information, which led to locating explosives in two safe houses in Sammanthurai.
The reward was presented by the President at the Presidential Secretariat on Wednesday morning, in the presence of Acting IGP C.D. Wickramaratne, the President’s Media Division said.
Police media spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekara said the attention of the Police Headquarters has been drawn to the individual, following his interviews to media.
He said based on information proved by the individual, security forces discovered a stock of explosives hidden inside a house at the village of Sengal in Sammanthurai on 25 April, and a second cache of explosives were discovered at a house in Nintavur, Sammanthurai.
