“I will personally intervene to bring justice to all those who lost their homes and properties that got damaged due to the violence which took place on various occasions since 31 March,” he insisted following the assumption of duties as the Chief Government Whip on Monday.
Ranatunga also said that it will be the prime task under his new portfolio as the Urban Development and Housing Minister.
He assured that quick measures are being taken to obtain information of the victims of such vandalism and bring justice to those affected through a special initiative.
“Protests and violence against the former Prime Minister and the Government began with the attack on the President Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s private residence in Mirihana on 31 March. Since then, there have been several such incidents of arson and destruction of houses and properties targeting former Ministers, Members of Parliament, Municipal Councillors, Pradeshiya Sabha Councillors and supporters of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) across the country. Thus, a special program is being implemented to obtain all the relevant information to treat them with justice,” he explained.
Minister Ranatunga asserted that he had already discussed the gravity of damages and the special initiative with the President Rajapaksa and the Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe.
He also affirmed that the implementation of the initiative will be fast-tracked to treat victims of violence.
