The sick leave strike action launched by postal workers continued for a second day yesterday.
Six trade unions, including the Sri Lanka Postal and Telecommunication Services Union, launched the sick leave campaign based on several demands, the Sri Lanka Post and Telecommunication Services Union Chairman Chinthaka Bandara said.
As a result of the trade union action, the Colombo Central Mail Exchange, almost all post offices island wide, including those in Kurunegala, Kandy, Matara, Anuradhapura, Kegalle, Polonnaruwa, Kochchikade, Negombo, Dankotuwa, Galle, Jaffna, Ampara and Batticaloa have been closed.
The Postal Administration meanwhile has taken action to cancel the leave of all postal workers with immediate effect.
However, Bandara urged all postal workers to disregard the notice and proceed with their trade union action.
