Postal voting begins today

  • All public sector employees, tri-forces members are eligible for postal voting 
  • Over 650,000 registered to vote 
  • Voting to take place today and tomorrow
  • Police Dept. to vote on 4-5 Nov.

Postal voting for the 2019 Presidential Election will begin today and will be held in 987 centres across the country. A total of 659,030 public officials are eligible to cast their votes today and tomorrow (1 November), while those who have applied for postal voting in the Police Department can do so on 4-5 November, the Election Commission said.

Those who are unable to cast their votes on the allocated days have been given an extra day to do so on 7 November.

A total of 717,871 had applied for postal voting, of which 58,841 were rejected.  

State officers who would be engaged in election duties, public officials engaged in essential services, and armed forces, Police and Civil Defence Force personnel are entitled to postal voting.
