Reuters: Police in India’s southern Rameswaram city detained a Turkish national on Saturday (7 April) after he reached the country from Sri Lanka in a fibre glass boat.
The 43-year-old man was identified as Mahir Devrim Paydas. He was apprehended on Saturday evening around 8.30 p.m. (GMT 1500). According to Paydas, he started his journey from Sri Lanka’s Zafnar Island, Karainagar and took nearly eight hours to reach in the Indian waters. Paydas claims that he took the illegal route as his visa had expired. A case has been registered and an investigation has been launched into the matter.
