  • Part of measures taken to ensure no disruption to quarantine process
  • No interruption to General Election nominations
  • Essential services and public passenger transport services to operate

Police curfew was imposed in the Puttalam, Chilaw, and Negombo Police Divisions at 4:30 p.m. yesterday and will continue until further notice in an attempt to contain the spread of COVID-19 and ensure quarantine measures continue without disruption.

The curfew will not interfere with the handing over of nominations for General Elections, for which the deadline is today.

Sri Lanka Police, in a statement issued yesterday, said exceptions would be made for authorised persons and those on duty for the handing over and signing of nominations paper as well as making a security deposit.

According to a statement, vehicular movement during this time will be limited to public passenger services travelling through these areas and essential services will be allowed to operate. In addition to this, those travelling to the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) can use their flight tickets as curfew passes.

Military Spokesman Brig. Chandana Wickramasinghe told Daily FT that the Sri Lanka Army would assist the Sri Lanka Police in this task.  Curfew has been imposed in Mundel, Kalpitiya, Wanathavilluwa, Anamaduwa, Puttalam, Saliyawewa, Pallama, Nawagattegama, Karuwalagaswewa, Norochcholai, and Udappu in the Puttalam Police Division.

In the Chilaw Police Division, curfew has been imposed in Wennappuwa, Koswatta, Marawila, Chilaw, Madampe, Arachchikattuwa, and Dankotuwa, and Kochchikade in the Negombo Police Division.
