The High Commission of Pakistan and the Pakistani community based in Sri Lanka celebrated the Independence Day of Pakistan on Tuesday with national zeal and enthusiasm as well as the commitment to protect the country against all perils.
Pakistan’s Acting High Commissioner Janbaz Khan hoisted the national flag in a distinctive ceremony held at the High Commission premises.
The Acting High Commissioner read out the message of Pakistan President Mamnoon Hussain which said: “Our forefathers waged a unique struggle and gave unparalleled sacrifices for achieving Pakistan. Now it is our responsibility to shape Pakistan according to the dreams of its founders and to achieve this objective there should be good relations, harmony and brotherhood among all strata of society.” “The objective of developing the country and rekindling its glorious past can only be achieved if we work single-mindedly keeping aside our personal interests,” the President added. In his message, the Prime Minister of Pakistan Justice (Retd.) Nasir-ul-Mulk said: “Undoubtedly, our beautiful country is blessed with every gift of the nature. From an ideal geostrategic location to the most talented and progressive youth, we have all the ingredients to carve out our own destiny and rise as a successful nation of the world.”
The Prime Minister added: “Unswerving commitment to the ideals of the Quaid-e-Azam and following the principle of ‘Unity, Faith and Discipline’ would certainly help us overcome our present-day challenges and make Pakistan a self-reliant, economically vibrant and prosperous country.”
On Pakistan-Sri Lanka relations, the Acting High Commissioner said that Pakistan had established diplomatic relations with Sri Lanka, immediately upon its independence, in 1948. Since then these relations, which are based on mutual understanding and common interest, have flourished continuously. He underscored that Pakistan has always supported Sri Lanka in its quest for national security, promotion of democracy, rule of law and economic progress.
He also conveyed Pakistan’s best wishes for peace, unity, harmony and progress to the Sri Lankan Government and its people.
The ceremony was attended by a large number of participants from various walks of life including members of the Sri Lanka Pakistan Friendship Association, Sri Lanka-Pakistan Business Council and the Pakistani community based in Sri Lanka.
