The Inspector General of Police (IGP) is to submit a report on the investigation into the allegations against TID DIG Nalaka De Silva to Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
Police Media Spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekara told Daily FT that Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe had ordered IGP Pujith Jayasundara to submit a comprehensive report on the findings of the investigation.
Furthermore, SP Gunasekara revealed that IGP Jayasundara had ordered the Criminal Investigations Division to take over the investigation against DIG De Silva. Initially the investigation was to be conducted by the Police Special Investigations Unit (SIU).
On Thursday (13), the IGP ordered the SIU to commence an immediate probe into allegations levelled against the Terrorism Investigation Division DIG Nalaka De Silva.
The IGP initiated the investigation following allegations made by the Anti-Corruption Front organisation.
The Anti-Corruption Front on Thursday held a press conference where they claimed that DIG De Silva was seeking promotions to a higher rank through corrupt means.
Anti-Corruption Front President Namal Kumara presented audio recordings between himself and DIG De Silva where the latter speaks of incriminating the Senior DIG in charge of the Special Task Force M.R. Latheef. Kumara said that DIG De Silva desired the position of the STF Chief.
