Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa hands over land deeds to selected recipients yesterday
Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday pledged that the Government would take new measures to improve the operations of the Sri Lanka Land Development Corporation (SLLDC) to fast-track land development projects.
The Prime Minister expressed these views at an event held at Temple Tress to hand over SLLDC land deeds to 2,500 people. The event was attended by President Gotabaya Rajapaksha and several senior ministers. The lands are for commercial and private use.
He said that the Government would fast-track the settlement of longstanding land ownership disputes and use those lands for income-generating projects. He added that due to longstanding legal battles, the SLLDC had to pay compensation to landowners. “I am really happy to be part of the group of MPs who voted in favour of the Act which formed the SLLDC. The Government will take measures to provide more lands in the future that can be used for economic development,” he said.
