An election monitoring watchdog in Sri Lanka, People’s Action for Free and Fair Elections (PAFFREL) says it is making arrangements to inform the Inspector General of Police about the criminals and corrupt individuals included in the nomination lists of political parties contesting for the local government election.

PAFFREL Executive Director Rohana Hettiarachchi said that the organisation has previously requested the secretaries of the main political parties not to include those individuals in the nomination lists.

He added that some political parties have taken measures to remove them from the nomination lists.

Hettiarachchi said that the PAFFREL has already identified 30 persons involved in illegal activities.

PAFFREL Executive Director said 77 incidents of election related violations have been reported so far.
