No new cases of coronavirus have been detected in Sri Lanka, and the Chinese national who tested positive remains at the National Institute of Infection Diseases (NIID), along with 17 suspected individuals.
According to a situation report issued by the Epidemiology Unit of the Health and indigenous Medicine Services Ministry yesterday, six new admissions and five discharges were reported between 10 am Wednesday and 10 am yesterday.
A quarantine plan is also in place for students returning to the country from Wuhan City once clearance is given. Students returning from other areas of China as well as those who visited China for other purposes during the last 14 days are advised to remain in their homes making minimal contact with others for a period of two weeks from the day of arrival in the country.
While emphasising that there is currently no need for the public, including children, to wear face masks routinely, the Epidemiology Unit also stated that 12 hospitals around Sri Lanka in areas like Gampaha, Ragama, Negombo, Kandy, Karapitiya, Anuradhapura, Jaffna, Kurunegala, Ratnapura, Batticaloa, and Badulla, have been identified as treatment centres for suspected persons.
