Nine persons, including six Navy personnel, tested positive for COVID-19 yesterday, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 2,010.
Of the total confirmed cases in the island, 941 are Navy personnel and their close contacts. The Epidemiology yesterday issued a correction in their situation report to the total number of patients in the Sri Lanka Navy, stating, “Total confirmed patients from Navy were reduced by six, as there was a misclassification with “Navy close contacts” who were in the local quarantine centres.”
As such, the revised number of patients from the Sri Lanka Navy with the exception of cases identified yesterday is 898. In addition to this, 717 of the total cases are Sri Lankan returnees from abroad, 313 are other local cases, and 30 are foreigners.
There are currently 397 persons under medical care at various hospitals. This includes 80 at the Hambantota District General Hospital, 73 at the Welikanda Base Hospital, 59 at the Kattankudy Base Hospital, 52 at the Teldeniya Base Hospital, 40 at the National Institute of Infectious Diseases, 34 at the Homagama Base Hospital, 22 at the Iranawila Hospital, 15 at the Minuwangoda Base Hospital, eight at the Colombo East Base Hospital, and four at the Panagoda Army Hospital.
The Epidemiology Unit also states that 36 suspect patients are being monitored at various hospitals, including 14 at the Sri Jayewardenepura Hospital.
The number of recoveries in the country rose to 1,602 yesterday with 40 patients being discharged after recovering from COVID-19. The new recoveries include 15 from the Minuwangoda Base Hospital, nine from the Kattankudy Base Hospital, seven from both the Hambantota District General Hospital and the Teldeniya Base Hospital, and one from both the Welikanda Base Hospital and the Homagama Base Hospital.
The Sri Lanka Navy yesterday stated that the total recoveries among Navy personnel reached 811 on Wednesday, with the recovery of 21 Navy personnel. All Navy recoveries will be required to remain under quarantine for an additional 14 days after being discharged from hospital.
The Sri Lanka Navy also issued a statement on the Boossa Quarantine Centre where 96 persons are currently undergoing quarantine. According to the statement, 12 persons left the centre yesterday and another 12 persons left the centre the day before after completing the quarantine process. A total of 357 persons have left the Boossa Quarantine Centre so far.
