New Rajagiriya – Nawala Bridge at Rs. 1.6 b cost

Cabinet has approved the construction of a new bridge across the Rajagiriya – Nawala canal at a cost of Rs. 1.6 billion to the State Development and Design Corporation, the Government Information Department said yesterday. 

Limited competitive bids were called to award the contract for the construction of a new bridge across Rajagiriya – Nawala canal connecting Angampitiya Road at Ethulkotte and School Lane, Rajagiriya at Nawala. 

Accordingly, the proposal submitted by the Minister of Highways Johnston Fernando to award the relevant contract to the State Development and Design Corporation for a sum of Rs. 1,698.55 billion (excluding VAT), as recommended by the standing committee on procurement appointed by the Cabinet of Ministers, was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.

Meanwhile, another contract to construct a water supply system and pipe laying in the Jaffna urban areas was also approved.

Approval of the Cabinet of Ministers was granted for the proposals tabled by the Minister of Water Supply Vasudeva Nanayakkara to award the contract for construction of water supplying systems and pipe laying in Jaffna urban area. 

This project is one of the components of the Jaffna – Kilinochchi Water Supply and Sanitation Project. It was awarded to India’s M/S National Contracting Company (NCC) for a sum of Rs. 3,160.20 million (including VAT) on the recommendations made by the standing committee on procurement appointed by the Cabinet of Ministers.
