The Navy has found 85 kg of drugs believed to be heroin from the Sri Lankan multiday fishing vessel seized in the seas of Galle last month.
Sri Lanka Navy on 10 July apprehended a Sri Lankan multiday fishing trawler in the seas off Galle along with four crew members and discovered some Hashish and Ice (methamphetamine) inside the vessel.
The Navy on 11 July apprehended an unidentified vessel along with six Iranians transporting 70 kg of narcotics in the deep seas south of Galle.
Suspecting a link between the two incidents, the Navy took the local fishing vessel into custody and the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) took legal action in this regard.
The large haul of heroin was discovered on Sunday when the vessel was subjected to a thorough search on court orders. The heroin stock was carefully hidden in a specially crafted section in the vessel.
The Navy is carrying out further investigations into the incident and the seized narcotics have been handed over to the PNB. (ColomboPage)
