Cabinet approves proposal by Education Minister
Move aimed at enhancing standard of education in country

The National Colleges of Education in the country are to be converted into University Faculties, providing an opportunity for teachers to become qualified graduates.

A Cabinet proposal to this effect, presented by Education Minister Dullas Alahapperuma, was approved on Wednesday.

The Cabinet also approved the appointment of a committee of experts representing the fields of education and higher education to look into the relevant academic and legal proceedings related to this, Cabinet Spokesman Minister Bandula Gunawardana said.

He stated that those who entered the faculties would follow a four-year degree program and would be able to uplift the standard of education within the country.

Another proposal by the Minister of Education to appoint a committee of experts to conduct studies and produce proposals for setting up an “Educational Closed Service” for teachers, principals and instructors was also approved by Cabinet.
