Sri Lankan citizens stranded in Dubai and Abu Dhabi will be repatriated to the country with the intervention of Youth and Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa.
During his recent visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Rajapaksa had visited Sri Lankans, who had been stranded due to the pandemic and various other reasons, who were staying in a park near the Sri Lankan Embassy.
The Minister had assured that those registered with the Embassy would be repatriated back to Sri Lanka in the immediate future. A majority of them had lost their jobs as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, while some were suffering from various ailments and have been unable to return to the country for a long time owing to various other reasons.
The Embassy in Abu Dhabi has also provided air tickets and necessary facilities to Sri Lankans who wish to return to their home country of IDP registration.
Minister Rajapaksa handed over air tickets for the stranded Sri Lankans. Tourism Minister Prasanna Ranatunga and Aviation State Minister D.V. Chanaka also provided support in arranging the air tickets for the Sri Lankans to be
repatriated.
