Due to increased usage of water and low water levels caused by dry weather, the National Water Supply and Drainage Board (NWSDB) yesterday requested the public to be careful when using water.
In a statement issued yesterday, the NWSDB explained that water supply would continue without interruption, but that water levels were low due to dry weather.
In addition to this, due to a large number of people being at home, usage has also increased. The NWSDB thus requested the public to use water with caution.
It mentioned that safety guidelines on the best way to wash hands broadcasted in media often depicted faucets left open. In addition to this, many Sinhala and Tamil New Year rituals include high usage of water.
The NWSDB requested that alternatives be used in these situations so that water could be supplied uninterrupted.
