Movement restrictions were yesterday imposed in Thiththawalyaya, Kurunegala after several COVID-19 patients were detected in the area.
After a businessman in the area tested positive for the virus, 72 of his contacts were subjected to testing and 29 COVID-19 positive persons were detected among them.
“All houses have been quarantined and movement restrictions have been imposed with the use of Police roadblocks due to the high risk of persons getting infected with patients and other persons visiting the mosque,” Kumbukkate Public Health Inspector (PHI) Sisira Bandara Basnayake said.
He added that all contact individuals from Thiththawalyaya have had with other areas have been identified. “Measures have been taken to prevent the spread of COVID-19 to other areas and all contacts have been directed for quarantine,” he added.
On Saturday, 33 persons from Kurunegala tested positive for COVID-19 and 2,892 persons have tested positive for the virus from Kurunegala District to date.
