Mobile service provider, Mobitel recently inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society (SLRCS) to partner with them in providing reliable communication solutions.
As per the terms of the MoU, Mobitel will provide the SLRCS with a mobile donation platform (subscription or on-demand based system) and will assist the SLRCS Disaster Response Teams to better serve disaster affected areas.
“The Sri Lanka Red Cross Society is engaged in various critical functions and with the help of Mobitel’s expertise in latest technology, we will be well positioned to carry out these tasks with efficiency and ease,” SLRCS Deputy Director General Sudath Madugalle said, addressing a media conference in Colombo on Wednesday.
Latest technology such as drones will be used to provide assistance to disaster response teams by flying alongside them in the sky, while providing communication support. They will also implement special communication programs and services in SLRCS housing and community building projects and extend latest technology assistance for SLRCS Disaster Management Operation rooms and command centres.
Commenting on the partnership Mobitel CEO Nalin Perera said they were proud to have been selected by the SLRCS as their communications solutions provider to offer best in ICT products and services.
“Mobitel’s innovative and reliable services are truly enhancing communication, technology, health and IT literacy opportunities for citizens throughout the nation. The SLRCS has been active in recent flood disasters in Sri Lanka and is a highly reliable relief agency both locally and globally. It is a privilege for Mobitel to partner with such an organisation,” he added.
SLRCS Chairman Jagath Abeysinghe asserted that their organisation has continued to provide humanitarian support during times of natural disasters, conflicts or even community emergencies, with critical services to save lives, essentials for survival and dignity of the people.
“In our mission, we need a reliable communication partner who can not only provide advanced solutions to streamline our master management and community housing projects, but also provide connectivity and enhance our operations. We found these qualities in Mobitel and look forward to enjoying its communications solutions in enhancing our critical operations. Sri Lanka has suffered a series of natural disasters in recent years during which our services are badly needed by the disaster affected people.
