Minister Wijewardene assumes office

The newly appointed State Minister of Defence MP Ruwan Wijewardene ceremonially assumed duties at the Ministry on Tuesday.

Upon arriving at the Ministry the honorable Minister was received by the Secretary to the Ministry of Defence Hemasiri Fernando, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), tri-forces commanders, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Director General of the Civil Defence Force.

Giving prominence to religious observance, a special ceremony was held where the Maha Sangha dignitaries conducted prayer in order to invoke blessings on the nation and the people.

In keeping with tradition Minister Wijewardene officially assumed office at the auspicious time in the presence of family and officials of the Ministry.

Deputy Minister of National Policies and Economic Affairs Dr. Harsha De Silva, State Minister of Finance Eran Wickramaratne, family members of the Minister and senior officials of the ministry were also present at the occasion.
