Minister Sagala to take lead on Esala Maha Perahera of Gatabaru Raja Maha Viharaya

Discussions were held on 29 August at the Prime Minister’s office regarding the annual Perahera function of Gatabaru Raja Maha Viharaya, Matara, scheduled to be held from 8 to 15 September. The meeting was headed by the Chief of the Prime Minister’s staff, Minister of Ports Shipping and Southern Development Sagala Ratnayaka, with the guidance of Kirinde Ananda Thero, Secretary of the Esala Functions Organising Committee. During this meeting, the heads of all the media institutions that participated agreed to give assistance to make the Perahera a success.  

This Esala Perahera is the only national, religious and cultural event that has been organised in the area during its 63 years of history. Accordingly, this meritorious event will include a Pirith Dhamma Deshana program on 8 September, followed by an almsgiving the next morning, a ‘Peli’ Perahera on 9, 10 and 11, ‘Randoli’ Perahera on 12 and 13 ,’Devol Maha Deva Thovilaya’ on 14 , ‘Gini Pageema’ on 15 and exhibition of pandols from 9 to 14 September.
