The Mass Media Ministry has requested from the Health Ministry that priority is given to journalists and postal workers in the COVID-19 vaccination program, citing that they are at high risk of contracting the virus due to the nature of their profession.
A statement issued yesterday stated that the Ministry Secretary Jagath P. Wijeweera made a written request to the Secretary of the Health Ministry. In the letter, he explained that journalists are a frontline group as they come into constant contact with the public and officials in various parts of the island.
According to the statement, Mass Media Minister Keheliya Rambukwella on a previous occasion made a similar request to the National Operations Centre for the Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak.
